The Swap (2016) Rated PG

the-swapTwo teenagers who have completely different lives suddenly swap places. Based on the book by Megan Shull. Starring Peyton List, Jacob Bertrand, Claire Rankin.

This is charming Disney Channel original movie. Two teenagers dealing with difficult life issues- one, a divorce; the other, a death- step into each other’s shoes, literally.  The transformation of the actors was fantastic, not to mention that they had to play the opposite sex! Their challenge is to figure out how to swap back before two important events in their lives occur.

Some moments in the film seemed out of place, like the music-driven montage of each character learning a new sport within 24 hours in order to pass each other’s tests.  This film is very reminiscent of other popular body-switching movies like Freaky Friday, Like Father Like Son, and The Change-up. Only, the switch in this movie happens while texting on their phones, which I guess is trendy but pretty unrealistic. Still, this film has a lot going for it, and I think it is worth a watch.
