Logan (2017) Rated R

In the future, an aging Logan cares for the ailing Professor X, when a young mutant comes and upends Logan’s world as she is pursued by a group who is out to get her. Starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle.

This film is designed to set up the next generation of mutants. It also marks the end of Logan’s leadership, as we see his successor replace him in this film. For such an important transitional film, I really didn’t feel that they did a good job of explaining the nature or history of these new mutants. In addition, the two main characters are at odds with each other, but grown close enough by the end of the film that she calls Logan “dad.” I didn’t think they developed the closeness of that relationship well enough. Still, I loved Merchant as Caliban, and Hugh Jackman has been playing Wolverine long enough that it has become a part of him. This film is a must see for all X-Men fans, but for those who haven’t followed the series, I would say it is a pass.
