She’s All That (1999) Rated PG-13

A high school jock takes a bet that he can turn an unattractive girl into the prom queen. Starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Rachael Leigh Cook, Matthew Lillard, Paul Walker, Kevin Pollak, Anna Paquin, Kieran Culkin, Lil’ Kim, Gabrielle Union, Dulé Hill.

This is Can’t Buy Me Love for the 90’s. Surprisingly, they did a fantastic job with updating the story for the next generation. It helps to have Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook as the main characters who both undergo transformations, of style and character. Add in some pop culture references, and you have a cute romance that stands on its own. The only problems I had with this film was the amount of underage drinking, which everyone seemed to be okay with and no one questioned. Also, there were breaks in the time line that were sometimes confusing, but overall, this movie is worth a watch.
