Promised Land (2012) Rated R

A sales man for a natural gas company experiences hard truths when visiting a small town.  Starring Matt Damon, Benjamin Sheeler, Terry Kinney, Hal Holbrook, Frances McDormand.

This film takes on fracking (hydraulic fracturing) that has raised concerns over the safety of drilling. I knew little about fracking prior to watching this film, but this film is skewed to one side, showing how bad fracking is. It also put farmers in a bad light, presenting them as uneducated people without value. Farmers are essential to our existence, and I was disappointed by how they were portrayed. I haven’t investigated fracking, so I don’t know how bad it is or if it really isn’t good for communities, but I’m not sure this film puts anything in a good light. I have to say this film is a pass for its overall negativity.
