Bleak House (BBC) Rated TV-PG

An estate battle caused by multiple confusing wills hangs over the heads of the heirs. Based on the novel by Charles Dickens. Starring Anna Maxwell Martin, Denis Lawson, and Carey Mulligan.

BBC always does an excellent job of bringing period pieces to life. Here they bring Charles Dickens’ novel Bleak House to the screen. This series does have a lot of characters that have a lot of depth to them. At times, both the number of characters and storylines of each character drowns out the other stories. Due to the number of characters, the story does start out slow as we get to understand the different characters and their relationships with each other. At one point in the series, Lady Dedlock claims she is bored; well, that was how I felt through most of this series. Even with my frustrations with the series, it’s still beautifully done, making it worth a watch.
