Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation (1962) Rated NR

The Hobbs family takes a vacation to the beach. Based on the book by Edward Streeter. Starring James Stewart, Maureen O’Hara, and Fabian.

I loved this film; I thought they did a wonderful job at giving us a glimpse of family life once everyone gets together – how chaotic it can be and how we don’t get along but come together anyway. It’s a lovely family film, and it gives us a peek into the relationships between family members. However, the film doesn’t really have a one goal or theme – it’s all over the place. James Stewart is his traditional self in the role of Mr. Hobbs, and Maureen O’Hara brings life to the role of a wife whose husband is not always aware of what’s going on with the kids. The children have their own issues that are just fun to watch. Overall, the film is better than I expected, and it’s worth a watch.
