After a summer romance, Danny and Sandy meet again in high school, where their friends get in the way of their romance. Starring Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit, and Vanessa Hudgens.
This is a fun live theater special. I thought the casting was brilliant, and, for the most part, the show was brought to life. Although, there were a number of technical difficulties. The scenes were very stilted, and the actors struggled with making the chemistry work. It felt like they were trying too hard to hit their marks, rather than coming into the characters. I think the network was trying so hard to be a more modern telling of the story with it’s cast that, at times, it struggled with the 1950s jive of the story. Although it has a number of problems, I have to say that it’s one of the better live productions the networks fight for every year. This one is worth a watch.
