The Night They Saved Christmas (1984) Rated NR

An oil company wants to drill in the Arctic right where Santa lives. Santa enlists the help of a mother and son to convince the father, who works for the oil company, not to drill. Starring Jaclyn Smith, Art Carney, Paul Le Mat, and Scott Grimes.

This Christmas film has the typical holiday feels. Although, the film has an interesting plot with an oil company wanting to drill in the North Pole. The filmmakers try to update Santa with technology. The special effects are of the times, and the technology update to Santa takes away the mystique of the fantasy. The film tries to make Santa more of a real person than a mythical creature. The film is, overall, an enjoyable movie that has a wonderful Christmas warmth, though not without flaws. This film is not worth a watch.
