Jesse Owens becomes the greatest track and field athlete in history and is thrust into the spotlight in the 1936 Olympics hosted by Nazi Germany. Starring Stephan James, Jason Sudeikis, and Eli Goree.
This film is a typical sports film with the stereotypical characters. The added story of Owens’ working through the racial prejudices in the US and the world while competing is interesting. We watch as the US Olympics commission debates whether to attend the German games and Owens himself makes his decision whether to compete or not. Those decisions are hard to make and their consequences leave lasting scars. The film has amazing actors portraying strong emotions while the world watches. While the film does take historical liberties with facts for dramatic purposes, this film is still worth a watch.
