I would really like to see at least one variety show making it as a show. Every year, at least one network brings one into the lineup, but it doesn’t last long. This is mostly because of the comedic talent. I had high hopes with this one due to Martin Short. I think his comedy is well-rounded and timeless, but Maya Rudolph is over-the-top and too much to actually enjoy as a comedian. The show, having been produced by Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live), has more of an SNL feel than a primetime variety show. It’s like SNL during the week. It’s not easy to swallow. It’s not one that would appeal to a large audience; it’s not worth the watch.
