Queen Sugar (OWN) Rated TV-14

Queen Sugar follows the story of three siblings, one of which moves from Los Angeles to Louisiana, where they share inheritance of a sugar cane farm from their father. Based on the book by Natalie Baszile. Starring Rutina Wesley, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Kofi Siriboe.

This show is based on a book. While I cannot comment on the difference of the two medians due to the fact that I haven’t read the book, the show is brilliantly written and has an interesting story. Although, the show doesn’t dive into the real-life conflict that would happen with the change of life the characters go through. For the most part, the characters lack the depth that comes with being human – they are rather cardboard copies. It’s hard to sympathize or care about these characters. This series is not worth a watch.
