The Edge of Seventeen (2016) Rated R

High school life becomes unbearable when Nadine’s best friend starts dating her older brother. Starring Hailee Steinfeld, Haley Lu Richardson, and Blake Jenner.

I don’t know why this film is so honored. For me, it left a bad taste in my mouth. It starts off with a girl who doesn’t feel that she belongs anywhere. Her character isn’t one that’s likable or that we can understand. Granted, we have all had the feeling of not belonging, but Nadine takes it to the next level. She doesn’t have a hard life, and she is way too selfish to really have us care about her teen angst. Most of the time, the storyline is too surreal. I mean, we all have teen angst, but hers is way over the top, and we, as the audience, have no sympathy toward her. The film does have its perks, but its nothing to make the film worthy. It’s not worth the watch.
