A Smoky Mountain Christmas (1986) Rated TV-PG

A country music singer, while traveling through Tennessee, runs into a backwoodsman and a witch. Starring Dolly Parton, Lee Majors, and Bo Hopkins.

This is definitely a fantasy film. While the film has the who’s who of stars from the 70s and 80s, it lacks on so many levels. I was hoping for more. I blame the film on the poor script. I’m not going to blame the director, Henry Winkler, as I like him and look at him with rose-tinted glasses. The same goes for Dolly Parton. While the film tries to bring the Christmas spirit to the story, it’s just too bizarre to make any sense. It tries to be campy but instead it’s mournful. The supernatural plot just doesn’t go with the warmth of the holiday, making it a miss for a TV movie. That in itself says it all. This film is not worth the watch.
