Valentino: The Last Emperor (2008) Rated PG-13

A documentary on the fashion designer Valentino. Starring Valentino Garavani, Giancarlo Giammetti, and Nati Abascal.

This documentary is great for understanding the world of fashion. It showcases Valentino as the world of fashion changes. The film is woven together with film clips of his past as we see the work ethic of a man who knew his craft well. We also see a mix of interviews with those that he worked with, celebrities that he dressed, critics, and his partner in life. Watching this, I realized how much he enjoyed making women look beautiful. That was his goal, without making them look indecent. This is highlighted in the beginning with a model that’s nude waiting to be dressed in something just as beautiful. It’s a wonderful telling of old haute couture. It’s worth a watch.
