Love and Friendship (2016) Rated PG

Love and FriendshipLady Susan visits her in-laws to find a match for both her daughter and herself. Based on the book, Lady Susan by Jane Austen. Starring Kate Beckinsale, Morfydd Clark, Tom Bennett, Chloë Sevigny, Stephen Fry.

Lady Susan is a lesser known book by Jane Austen, mainly due to the fact that she never finished it and did not intend for it to be published.  I think the film shows this.  This story has Austen’s humor (which played well) but not her typical storytelling.  I’m not sure what the filmmakers were trying to accomplish with this movie, but they almost lost me in their attempts to use anonymous voice-overs to explain the characters.  I love Jane Austen, and despite all of the problems with this film, I still think it is a fair representation of her incomplete work; it is worth a watch.
