School’s out for the summer so the high schoolers of East High get jobs at the country club owned by Sharpay and Ryan’s family. Starring Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale.
I’m of the generation that was past the hype of the High School Musical. While I was too old to really appreciate the love of this franchise, I was still able to see the draw it has. Specifically, it includes the stereotypical characters you have in high school and shows how they work together or create friction among the group. This film has that with the addition of catchy songs that make you want to dance and sing along. Saying all that, there are definitely issues with the film. One, the script. It just doesn’t make much sense. First, the boy, Troy, is smart and can easily read people but can’t figure out how he is being favored. Second, you have the acting. It’s definitely not the best, but it’s a series that is great for the actors to cut their teeth on. Then you have the singing and dancing. You can tell that most of these actors aren’t the best dancers, but most annoying is the lack of talent with lip-syncing. It’s bad and annoying, and it downgrades the whole film. Thus, it’s not worth the watch.
