Woman of the House (2017) Rated TV-PG

Looking back on her sorority days, a former sorority girl becomes a housemother to a chapter in shambles. Starring Kirsten Zien, Charlie Carrick, and Larissa Dias.

This movie lacks on so many levels. The premise isn’t too bad – it’s a little unrealistic, but most romances are. What lacks the most is the writing and the acting. The characters are all childish from the adults to the college kids. Nobody is very smart, and nobody seems to want to grow up. Although the romance is wonderful, the story would be better if they weren’t so childish. The film is not worth the watch.

The Top Ten Revealed (AXStv) Rated NR

Ā Kate Daryl counts down the most influential songs, bands, and musicians in rock and roll. Starring Katie Daryl, Pete Giovine, and Matt Pinfield.Ā

I love this show. The countdown is based on the number of votes that you, the viewer, cast on social media added to the number of sales. The lists can be serious like top albums or interesting like best social distancing songs. I don’t mind rock songs, but I would like to see them do more with other genres. As the show is based on music, they should showcase something from every genre. Country is good, but Blues and K-pop are just as good. It would also be nice if the show used talking heads from the other genres as well. They have done some of that, but more would be nice. This series is still worth a watch.Ā

The Porter (PBS) Rated TV-MA

Black railway workers join together to make the first black union. Starring Aml Ameen, Ronnie Rowe, Mouna Traoré

This series could have been better. I really wish I could’ve gotten more into the story. The filming was on the dark side with low lighting most of the time you have a hard time to see what is happening. Then you have these characters that you wished you could relate to, but they are just has frustrating.Ā  None of them are ones that you would even care to understand or know them. The production on top of it wasn’t very ambitious. It’s not worth the watch.Ā

The Phantom Carriage (1921) Rated NR

On New Year’s Eve, a coachman forces a drunken man to look at his life. Starring Victor Sjƶstrƶm, Hilda Borgstrƶm, and Tore Svennberg.

This film is known for the double exposure of film that Sjƶstrƶm used to make the ghostly figures on screen. The film’s exposure is what makes it interesting. While the story itself is compelling, the method of storytelling dates the film. It tells the story as if explaining things to a child, which is rather annoying. It would be just as pleasant to let the story unfold. The pacing of the film is typical of the time, but again, it’s slow for today’s standards. However, this is still a film worth a watch.

Wisdom of the Crowd (CBS) Rated TV-14

A tech innovator creates a crowd sourcing hub in order to solve his daughter’s murder. Starring Jeremy Piven, Richard T. Jones, and Natalia Tena.

This show has so many problems that it is hard to pinpoint what makes it unwatchable. Sure, we can say there are a lot of things that could have been done to make this show better. It might have been better if they ran the storyline like The Mentalist. They could have had the show focus on trying to find the daughter’s killer first then move on toward the other storylines. Thus, the plot doesn’t seem to have a focus. The show needs to be on task with the main storyline. Also, the idea of this tech hits too close to home, and being comfortable watching it is another thing. This show is not worth the watch.
