This is Where I Leave You (2014) Rated R

This is Where I leave youWhen their father passes away, four siblings are forced to return home and spend a week together under the same roof. It is based on Jonathan Tropper’s book by the same name. Starring Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Kathryn Hahn, Connie Britton, Dax Shepard

At first, I thought this film was going to be your typical family angst film. Add some adult humor, and it’s just like all the others.  But, happy surprise, this film took another route. Yes, there is still some adult humor, but it wasn’t as offensive as I anticipated, based on other, similarly themed films. It’s actually an accurate portrayal of the messiness of family, something I think we all can relate to.  Despite our differing problems and perspectives, we (usually) all end up accepting and loving each other in the end.  With a well-chosen cast, the film does an excellent job representing the true nature of the common, dysfunctional family.  This is one to watch.
