Mortdecai (2015) Rated R

mortdecaiA debonair, nearly bankrupt British lord and occasional art dealer is in danger of losing his estate.  He embarks on a series of misadventures with his manservant to reclaim a stolen painting, his fortune, and his wife.

Utterly ridiculous, yet with its own sense of charm, Mortdecai feels like a complete waste of time almost enjoyably spent, save for the excessive gag reflexes and bouts of vomiting, which, in my opinion, are never funny.

In addition, who likes to see their favorite contemporary actors looking so aged?  I felt particularly old after watching Gwyneth, Johnny and Ewan in this film.  They may be in great shape, but there was no denying the wrinkles that even professional make-up artists couldn’t hide.

On the other hand, who really wants to watch the Packers’ star quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ vapid girlfriend either?  Sure, Olivia Munn is striking to look at, but she is dull as tombs as an actress, even playing a nymphomaniac.

There’s plenty of action in this film, along with spurts of violence, loads of sexual innuendo, and sprinkles of harmless humor.  Add in a petulant, middle-aged lord obsessed with his mustache, devoted to his wife, and in search of a priceless, stolen painting which will save his indebted estate, and you’ve got Mortdecai.

Don’t mind if I don’t recommend it. This one is a pass.
