A family comes home from vacation and unwittingly brings home a supernatural entity. Starring Kevin Bacon, Radha Mitchell, David Mazouz, Jennifer Morrison, Paul Reiser, Ming-Na Wen.
There is nothing exceptional about this textbook thriller story. I did find some elements problematic, though. First, they gave the characters too many story lines to follow. I suppose they were trying to add depth, but it just muddled the thriller aspect. Second, I did not appreciate how poorly this family treated one another. They were all going through some difficult issues, but they didn’t show the requisite care that family members should in times of struggle. Finally, it upset me that the family blamed the neighbor’s dog for what was happening and never apologized for their inaccurate accusation. We don’t even know if the dog is saved or not. This film had some promise, but it failed to deliver. It is a pass.
