The Shack (2017) Rated PG-13

A grieving man meets God at The Shack. Based on the novel by William P. Young. Starring Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, Tim McGraw, Radha Mitchell.

I went into this film with an open mind. I know a lot of Christian reviewers have labeled both this film and the book it is based on as heresy. I wouldn’t say that, but I would say this author does have a warped view of who God is and what He stands for. There is an unbalanced perspective of God’s love and judgment. It does an excellent job of depicting God’s love and forgiveness, which He extends to everyone, but the gospel itself is not explained well, especially in regards to the resurrection. I find this film problematic for those seeking Truth, but simply as a film, it is quite good. Due to its overall content and handling of the Message, I cannot recommend it, though; it is a pass.
