Robot and Frank (2012) Rated PG-13

Set in the future, an ex-jewelry thief receives a robot from his son. Soon, the team tag up and begin some heists of their own. Starring Frank Langella, James Marsden, Liv Tyler, Peter Sarsgaard, Susan Sarandon, Jeremy Sisto, Ana Gasteyer.

This film isn’t at all what you might expect. It is so much deeper than just a man and his robot. It deals with aging, loneliness, and longing for past glory. Langella is brilliant as Frank, adapting to life with a robot, struggling to connect with his children, and trying to relive the past to find some meaning or value in his life. Although set in the future, the message this film brings is timeless, and the setting feels contemporary. One of the best films I’ve seen, this one is definitely worth a watch.
