W.E. (2011) Rated R

The affair between  King Edward VIII and American divorcée Wallis Simpson is entwined with a  contemporary romance between a married woman and a Russian security guard. Starring Abbie Cornish, Andrea Riseborough, James D’Arcy, Oscar Isaac. A film by Madonna.

I have mixed feelings about this film. Although I found the story line between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson both intriguing and interesting, the parallel story about the married woman (who is looking into the controversy surrounding the King’s romance) and a Russian security guard lacked the same chemistry.  I appreciate that this film explored the controversy and the difficulty that King Edward and Simpson experienced because of their relationship- it wasn’t a fairy tale romance by any means. Still, the film just doesn’t seem to satisfy overall. It is a pass.
