Garage Sale Mystery: Murder by Text (2017) Rated NR

A bass player is found dead days before she’ll go on tour with a country star. Starring Lori Loughlin, Sarah Strange, Steve Bacic.

The Garage Sale Mystery series continues to get better with each movie: better scripts, better chemistry, better production. This movie doesn’t disappoint, but it’s not the best one I’ve seen. I think the problem was that it had too many stories going on, making it feel a bit cluttered. Jennifer’s husband and daughter are in conflict, Dani is in conflict with her sister who is visiting from out of town, and the police are investigating a murder as a suicide. Honestly, the police are the dumbest I have seen in this series; it seemed like Jennifer was more serious about the investigation than they were. Unfortunately, due to the family issues at play, the murder took a back seat in this film. It did bring more depth to the main characters, but at the expense of the film as a whole. The writing was just too scattered to create a cohesive storyline. Still, it is an enjoyable series, and worth a watch, because it moves the characters forward for future installments.
