Alice Adams (1935) Rated NR

The adventures of two social-climbing women in small town America. Starring Katharine Hepburn, Fred MacMurray, Fred Stone, Evelyn Venable

This is one of those films that are a gem to stumble upon. Katharine Hepburn enjoyed playing Alice Adams and it shows. Alice Adams and her mother are both wanting to move up the social ladder. This film can come across as boring or slow but it doesn’t, we feel for Alice as she struggles to fit in, in small town America. Fred Stone is brilliant as the father who struggles to make ends meet but doesn’t have the strength to make the change. He’s brilliant in this film. Alice Adams isn’t a film that stands out but it is one that is worth a watch.
