The story of megastar Liberace and his six-year romance with Scott Thorson. Based on the book Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace by Scott Thorson. Starring Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, and Eric Zuckerman.
I think this film portrays Liberace’s life as well as possible; it is probably quite accurate. The downfall is the actors. They seem uncomfortable on screen and don’t fit the roles they are trying to portray. Then you have the hair and makeup that distract you from the performance and the story. Liberace lived an exuberate life of excess, and the film shows that, but it sticks out like a sore thumb rather than portraying it as his way of life. The film portrays Liberace as the showman that he was, but I was disappointed that instead of just telling his story the film exploits his life. This film is not worth a watch.
