Phantom Thread (2017) Rated R

In 1950s London, a renowned dressmaker’s meticulous life is uprooted when he meets a strong-willed woman.  Starring Vicky Krieps, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Lesley Manville.

This is one twisted film. The premise of the film seems to be a phantom thread that the dressmaker hides in his artwork. However, that premise doesn’t come through in the movie. Instead, the film takes a different turn and the focus shifts to the toxic relationship between the dressmaker and his muse. The movie’s more successful features are the acting, music, and blocking, but the story is lacking. It would have been better if there were consequences for the couple’s actions, but there aren’t any – it just leaves you hanging. This film is interesting, and with Daniel Day-Lewis as the male lead, it’s a film worth a watch.
