La Cage aux Folles (1978) Rated R

Two gay men hide their lifestyle when one partner’s son announces they are getting married. Starring Ugo Tognazzi, Michel Serrault, and Claire Maurier.

This is a brilliant comedy; the slapstick elements are just as funny as the humor in the film. La Cage aux Folles is definitely better than the American version, The Birdcage. The humor in La Cage doesn’t have the political humor like The Birdcage, which makes it all the funnier. The film doesn’t try to make a statement – it just wants to make you laugh, which you will. It does have adult humor, it’s a European film after all, but they are more subtle than those in the American version. It’s a film that is worth a watch.
