Les Misérables (2018) Rated TV-14

Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, we follow Jean Valjean as he evades capture by Inspector Javert. Starring Dominic West, David Oyelowo, and Adeel Akhtar.

Masterpiece always does a fine job at bringing novels to life. Although, they do allow the political correctness of today affect the story, so the film is not the most historically accurate telling. It also rushes through the story; where we get the romance between Fantine and Felix, we don’t get to see the aftermath and the consequences of the romance before Fantine has to abandon Cosette. The film isn’t very  French – it’s definitely an English-made film. I really did enjoy the performances of all the actors, West, Oyelowo, and Lily Collins. Even though the film lacks the realism of the lifestyles and period, it’s still worth a watch.
