Heleno (2011) Rated R

A biography of the life of Brazil’s soccer player, Heleno de Freitas. Starring Rodrigo Santoro, Alinne Moraes, and Angie Cepeda.

This film tries to give an accurate presentation of the life of de Freitas. It’s shot in black and white, and it takes on his life, not his professional career, so the film is not about Soccer. Santoro was brilliant in the movie, bringing de Freitas to life. The movie is more about de Freitas as a man, and the film takes on the more depressing aspects of the life that he led. His life wasn’t perfect, but I did think Santoro’s performance was the best part of the film, making it not worth a watch.
