Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook America (2019) Rated NR

A documentary series tells the cultural revolution of Hip Hop over 40 years since its conception. Each episode tells the story behind a song that transformed the genre. Starring Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, Shawn Gee, and Alex Gibney.

I had really hoped this would be more of a documentary on the genre of music, but it’s really just talking about a single song in every episode. There is some discussion about the artist or the history of the artist, but it doesn’t go into much detail. It also doesn’t go into much detail about how the songs have changed the genre. It’s almost like the producers all chose their favorite songs and then sat around and talked about them. This documentary is not worth a watch.
