Hot Pursuit (2015) Rated PG-13

A “by the book” cop is in charge of bringing in the wife of a drug boss. Starring Reese Witherspoon, Sofía Vergara, and Matthew Del Negro.

This is one of those female buddy films, and it relies on the likeability of Witherspoon and Vergara. Films like these make me wonder, why do these actors bend down to this level? There are laughs; although, the film still seems to make fun of the women, using them as the punchline. Vergara tries to bring her A-game, but it’s lost when her accent is made fun of. Witherspoon is better than the Type A personality she tries to portray on screen. At least the jokes didn’t revolve around sex and profanity. There was a lack of chemistry between Vergara and Witherspoon, an essential part of a buddy comedy. And then, why was there a sudden romance? It’s not the best written or directed. This film is not worth a watch.
