The Patriot (2000) Rated R

A farmer is driven to lead the Colonial Militia during the American Revolution when a British officer kills his son. Starring Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger, and Joely Richardson.

This is not a historical film about the Revolutionary War. It’s a story about a reluctant farmer who is unable to stay out of the fight. Even though the film is not historically accurate about the war, it is historically accurate about the time. It also shows the more violent nature of the Revolutionary War than what is usually portrayed. The film, overall, is just a brilliant popcorn movie of entertainment. There isn’t much depth to the film, but it’s easy to just enjoy. This film is worth a watch.
