This documentary helps bring to light the history of the worst case of racist violence in America. The Tulsa Race Massacre that happened in the summer of 1921 is one of the most horrific pieces of violence against blacks that we have yet to learn. This event was wiped out of Oklahoma’s history. It wasn’t just the government that wiped it out, but it was so horrific that the survivors couldn’t even talk about it. It started like so many other attacks on blacks with a young black man accidentally brushing against a white girl in a department store. The young man was arrested, but there were rumors that he was to be lynched. As both sides met at the jail armed, a shot ran out, and a white man fell, causing all Hell to break loose. That’s how the death count started, and by the end, there were 300 dead. This show tells the facts of what happened, but it doesn’t dig into the whole 24 hours. The show does talk about the compensation that the government is providing for the survivors. It also showcases the different ways people are trying to keep this crime from being erased from history. This show is worth a watch.
