The Serpent Queen (Starz) Rated TV-MA

A tv series that is based on the book by Leonie Frieda on the life of Catherine de Medici. Starring Samantha Morton, Amrita Acharia, and Enzo Cilenti.

Starz does a wonderful job at bringing these historical figures to life. While I enjoyed the first episode, I wondered if Samantha Morton was a good fit. I love Morton as an actress; she has surprised me a number of times with her performances. However, I just don’t know if her performance as Catherine de Medici was a perfect fit. I last saw her on The Walking Dead, and she was perfect. Here, I see so much of the previous character that I can’t see her as de Medici. I also believe that this is more of a fictional take on de Medici’s life rather than a historical one. To me, there were a number of historical inaccuracies, but Starz gives us a great story about a historical person. It’s worth a watch.
