You’ve Got a Friend (2007) Rated NR

A boy who recently lost his parents turns to the town recluse to help him make a soapbox racer. Starring John Schneider, Dylan McLaughlin, and Jason Brooks.

This is one of those feel-good Hallmark films. It’s a family film where a child has lost his parents and is trying to find his way with an aunt and uncle he barely knows. It’s nothing new to the genre. It’s an old-fashioned story that weaves in complex storylines about living and believing. While those, storylines are good and interesting, what this film struggles with is realism. It’s too sweet for how hard a situation this would be for this young man. This film is not worth the watch.
