In Ancient Polynesia, a cursed Demigod named Maui seeks a way to break the curse and Moana heads out to help. Starring Auli’i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, and Rachel House.
Disney seems to have taken a step away from fairy tales and is trying to open up to other cultures. I would like to see more of the traditional cultural fairy tales that would honor those other cultures. Back to Moana, the music is wonderful, thanks in part to Lin-Manuel Miranda. The songs are catchy and smart. The animation isn’t bad, even if they copied some animation from their earlier films to recreate Moana. Although the story is another rework of a daughter breaking free from an overbearing father, even with the negatives, this film is worth the watch.
