The Miracle Woman (1931) Rated NR

After her father, the minister in town, dies, a woman loses her faith. Starring Barbara Stanwyck, David Manners, and Sam Hardy.

This is one of the first talking films by Frank Capra. The theme of it revolves around Capra’s classic storytelling of depression, class warfare, suicide, the forgotten man, the power of an individual, and the fickleness of the mob. The script is wonderful with very few holes. The pacing, however, needs some work as it moves rather slowly. It’s one of Barbara Stanwyck’s first talking films, and it’s obvious that she will be a star. The story is a wonderful romance with a con that comes back to the faith she left. This film is worth the watch.
