The Passion (2016) Rated TV-PG

A retelling of Jesus Christ as He makes the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind. Starring Tyler Perry, Jencarlos Canela, and Chris Daughtry.

While I understand the route these creative artists were taking, it didn’t turn out well. It’s one thing to try to make it modern and hip – it’s another when you lose sight of the story you’re telling. They missed the reason of Christ’s death. The music was hit or miss; there were some I loved and others that hurt my ears. The acting, too, was at times brilliant and other times off the mark. I didn’t get the reason behind Perry talking to the audience. That’s something that works better in films than stage productions that are filmed. Although, at times, I enjoyed some of the questions and answers. It’s like what someone else said, “It’s a hot mess.” That it was. It’s not worth the watch.
