Young Guns II (1990) Rated PG-13

Billy the Kid and his band head to Mexico while being followed by Sheriff Pat Garrett, which comes to a face off at the border. Starring Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, and Lou Diamond Phillips.

This a sequel to the first film, Young Guns. The film catapults the young Hollywood actors into fame. The first film is brilliantly written as it tells the story of the young outlaw gangs of the old west. The series brings the new young actors and the historical aspect of outlaw life to the screen. It’s a romanticizing of their life, but it also gives us a glimpse at what made them outlaws. The first film is great, but this one is lacking on a number of levels – one is the writing. While the first film is brilliant, this one just doesn’t make sense as a sequel; there was no need to make this film. It tries to tackle the legend of Billy the Kid, but it fails miserably. If the first film lacked in historical accuracy, the second one is even worse. The movie doesn’t show us how Billy the Kid survived, just that he did. This film should not have been made, and it definitely isn’t needed. It’s not worth the watch.
