The People vs. George Lucas (2010) Rated NR

A documentary on fans’ disenchantment with George Lucas. Starring Joe Nussbaum, Daryl Frazetti, and Doug Jones.

This film tackles fans’ dislikes and complaints against Lucas’ change in the films each time they are released. It’s a one-sided documentary that doesn’t offer anything from the other side. What it does do is give us a look into why Lucas made the changes he did, whether to improve creatively or for profit. It also brings out the worse in the fans; as the film goes on, it seems the angrier they are toward Lucas. It’s an interesting documentary, but it’s one that’s not worth the watch.

Survivalists (BYU) Rated NR

Two families compete against each other in a three-day race in the wilderness. Starring L. Terrel Majette, Rachel Majette, Tre Majette, and Colin O’Brady.

This is a great family reality show. Granted, the show has it’s staged moments, but it does put the family to the test. The family comes on the show for bonding and learning to help each other. They learn a lot of teamwork, communication, and survival skills as they travel through rough terrain. Most of these families are not country folk, so it does have the entertaining factor of decision making. This show is entertaining for all ages and worth the watch.

The Peacemaker (1997) Rated R

An army colonel and a civilian team up to track down Russian nuclear weapons. Starring George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, and Marcel Iures.

This film has the usual action that the genre calls for, but it’s just not as good as other films. The special effects aren’t the best. While both Clooney and Kidman are great actors, the pairing just doesn’t mesh. Plus, you have the pacing where there’s political babble then action. It doesn’t flow as nicely as it could. The film isn’t original; although it does try to differentiate itself from others. It has Clooney’s sense of humor, but that doesn’t improve a bad script. This film is not worth the watch.

Super 8 (2011) Rated PG-13

The Summer of 1979, a group of friends witness a train crash that causes unexplained events. Starring Joel Courtney, Jessica Tuck, Joel McKinnon Miller

This film has nostalgic for the 80s  films. The film brings back all the memories of youth during the 80s. It’s a great homage to the films made in the  80s. The actors where great for their roles. Kyle Chandler was  brilliant with the subtle acting tones. The special effects were great. The film does have it’s problems. The most annoying is the consistency of the monster. The rules come and go, they don’t stay consistent. This film overall, has heart and warmth even with the zombies and aliens. It’s worth the watch.
