This film is a gritty character take on WWI. We are in the trench on the eve of the Battle of the Somme. The Trench has very little combat scenes but a closer look at what life was like in the trenches. It might have made the film more interesting to have the combat scenes although, it was a nice change to have the film focus on the soldiers who lived in the trenches. Astounding.
