The story of a teenage boy who is raised by multiple women in 1979. Starring Annette Bening, Elle Fanning, and Greta Gerwig.
This is a coming-of-age film, but it falls short of connecting to teenage angst. The pacing is long and tedious. The film director, Mike Mills, points out the inappropriate behavior on screen like it’s supposed to be normal that people behave this way. The film weaves intermittent scenes with what seems like real-life events together, but it doesn’t mesh. The film is supposed to give us the feel of what 20th-century women are like, but if this is them, I wouldn’t want to be one. Oops, I am. The plot falls short due to the length of the film and we don’t sympathize with any character, making it not worth the watch.
