An adaption of Alex Haley’s book, Roots: The Saga of an American Family. Starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Malachi Kirby, Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne, Babs Olusanmokun, Daphne Videau.
Having watched the original Roots miniseries, I came expecting the same intensity and impact that the first one brought. This new series is an update of the old and definitely more violent. It is the epic story of Kunta Kinte and his descendants from Africa as they go through the Civil War. It will tear at your heart, but not with quite the same impact that the 1977 version did. I couldn’t emotionally detach from that one, even after it ended. Even so, this version is quite good and worth a watch.
