The Company You Keep (2012) Rated R

A Weather Underground activist goes on the run when a journalist uncovers who he is. Starring Robert Redford, Shia LaBeouf, and Julie Christie.

This film is supposed to be a thriller, but alas it doesn’t hold much in the thriller department. It’s a slow going film, and I’m from a generation that didn’t know much about the Weather Underground activists, making the film hard to follow without knowing the history. The film adds to this confusion with time and age discrepancies. The script is the main culprit for the film’s shortcomings. It’s just poorly done, even though it’s a simple, straightforward story, parts are missing. Unfortunately, the actors, who are usually great, can’t even bring this film out of its slump. This movie isn’t worth a watch.
