The Originals (CW) Rated TV-14

A family of original vampires heads back home to the city they built to dominate those who have crossed them. Starring Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, and Charles Michael Davis.

This show is a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries. Having enjoyed The Vampire Diaries, I was interested to see what they would do with the bad guys from the series. Although I enjoyed watching Morgan and Gillies, the storyline that brought them back to New Orléans doesn’t hold water. The show introduces all these new characters, each with his or her own backstory. You have to get to know each one, and that takes time. This makes for a slow build of the overall storyline when you’re already familiar with the leading family members, who are characters you already know and love. The show has the usual back and forth drama of love and betrayal that The Vampire Diaries had, but I’m still not sure how I feel about the new characters. Still, the show is worth a watch.
