The Case for Christ (2017) Rated PG

An investigative journalist and atheist decides to prove that Christ isn’t who he says he is. Based on the book by Lee Strobel. Starring Mike Vogel, Erika Christensen, and Faye Dunaway.

Christian films always struggle with giving a good story while proclaiming the Gospel, and this film is no exception. I did find that this film struggles with giving a basic concept of the Gospel. They have done better than other films, but it’s also lacking in the story. The story is so bland that it’s forgetful. It does give a balance that both sides are not made evil. The film is made for Christians, so it probably won’t change the minds of atheists. I’ve enjoyed Strobel’s books as they give insight to how you can’t debunk the Christian; he asks questions that need answers, and he was able to find it in Christ. So, rather than watch the movie, I suggest picking up one of his books, especially if it’s a question of why anyone would believe in the opposite way. However, this film is still one worth a watch.

Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook America (AMC) Rated NR

This documentary looks at each song that was groundbreaking in the world of music from the Hip Hop genre. Starring Queen Latifah, Kendrick Lamar, and Ye.

Although I am not a Hip Hop fan, I did find it interesting learning about the different songs. Some I know, and others I don’t, but it’s interesting to see the changes to the genre of Hip Hop. The show talks about the differences before the song was released, while the song is released, and the change of music after the release. Some of the facts are things I didn’t know about music or the song in general, while I also did know of some of the interest in the songs. I thought the research of the songs, and the creators of the music being open to discuss the creative process, was good. This show is worth the watch.
