Albert (2016) Rated TV-G

albertAlbert is a tiny fir tree that dreams of becoming Empire City’s famous Christmas tree. Based on the book, Albert: The Little Tree with Big Dreams by Aaron Eisenberg and Will Eisenberg. Starring Katie Crown, John DiMaggio, Judah Friedlander, Rob Riggle, Bobby Moynihan.

At first glance, this seems like a charming Christmas movie about a young fir tree who hopes to become the city’s big Christmas tree.  The central message is, of course, that no matter how small you are you can still reach your dreams.  However, there were a couple of drawbacks to the story.  One, the fir tree doesn’t really face any trials in order to grow.  Sure, he goes on a trip, but nothing really happens.  He also fights an enemy, but there isn’t a real sense of character growth from it.  In the end, the moral ends up sounding more like even if you are small you can accomplish your dreams without much work.  This film is a pass.
